Jeannette Sanderson

Jeannette Sanderson has been obsessed with words for as long as she can remember. Her writing includes essays, articles, books, plays, and educational materials. Her essays have appeared in Boston Globe Magazine, Motherwell, and You and Me Magazine, among other places. Her essay "Playtex Dreams" was chosen as part of the read-aloud at the Greater Capital Region's annual BraVa event 2023. She has published blog posts in Medium and WordPress. She has written articles for children and adults and regularly contributes to her wonderful hometown newspaper, the Peekskill Herald. Her Dog to the Rescue books for children have sold more than several hundred thousand copies. Jeannette has contributed to or written plays, stories, and adaptations for a variety of educational publications.

In addition to writing and raising two wonderful children, Jeannette spent seventeen years teaching middle-schoolers. During this time, Jeannette got to share her love of reading and writing with hundreds of students. One of her favorite memories from teaching is when a student complained about not watching as much television as she used to. "It's all your fault, Ms. Sanderson," the student said. "You made me love reading, and now I'm doing that instead of watching TV." Another highlight of her teaching years was winning a Fund for Teachers Fellowship to attend a Spanish-language immersion program in Costa Rica. She wrote a lot about that in her "When the Teacher Es El Estudiante" blog posts.

Jeannette is currently at work on a variety of projects. She is writing a memoir about discovering personal strength during challenging times when the so-called experts fail you. She is writing a series of articles and interviews about Peekskill's Regeneration Farm for the Peekskill Herald. And her mind, and notebooks, are swirling with ideas for stories and essays.

When not writing, Jeannette finds joy reading, running, and spending time with family. Her social media handle--readwriterunmom--reflects this. Jeannette's reading taste is eclectic. She will read fiction or nonfiction, children's or adult literature. She does, however, stay away from anything scary or gory, believing that real life and her imagination already allow her to conjure the worst. Jeannette feels most at home in her body when she is moving. She is passionate about running and has run dozens of half marathons and five marathons, including New York, Boston, and Paris. Some of Jeannette's happiest times are when she and her entire family are all under the same roof. Jeannette sometimes struggles with dueling desires--wanting ot travel and wanting to stay home--and manages to do a lot of both. Jeannette lives in New York's beautiful Hudson Valley with her husband and their crazy yet loveable rescue dog, Magnolia.
